How to Take Advantage of the Booming Podcasting Industry While it’s Hot

Are you ready to jump on the Podcasting Bandwagon? As predicted last year, podcasting itself is taking off like hotcakes! Now is a terrific time to take advantage of its surge in popularity, and there are several ways to do this.

First, let’s take a look at why this industry is so hot. Podcast listening grew by a phenomenal 23% from 2015-2016, according to study by Edison Research. As a small business owner producing a podcast is a fairly inexpensive, easy to produce tool to reach prospects. Beware not everyone can or should have their own podcast! Take it from my own experience, publishing a quality podcast takes time and dedication.

I wasn’t able to find any hard and true numbers, however, in 2013, iTunes reported they had 250,000 podcasts. I started mine in 2015, so we know the number is higher by at least one now :). Understand all of these show producers are actively seeking professionals to interview with topics their listeners are interested in. Some of them need you!

I started the Fresh Tracks with Kelly Robbins podcast in early 2015, and it was a much bigger project than I had expected! It’s time consuming, is a different way of selling than the e-zine and content writing I’d been doing for the previous 15 years, and requires skill-sets such as interviewing others and brainstorming topics to cover. All of which is much more time-consuming than I anticipated!

Don’t despair if producing a podcast isn’t your cup of tea! There are other ways you can jump on the podcasting bandwagon besides starting your own.

The best way to take advantage of the  growing podcasting phenomenon is to be interviewed on a podcast as a featured guest.

Being interviewed is a terrific and inexpensive way to grow your business and position yourself as an expert! In the two years I’ve been producing the Fresh Tracks podcast I’ve interviewed some amazing guests. I’ve also interviewed some people that were incredibly BAD interviews. There is a definite right and wrong way to be a great guest and promote your business at the same time via a podcast or radio show.

If you would like to learn more about how to make money being interviewed on podcasts – Check out my newest training Grow your business being interviewed on podcasts here.

Another way to take advantage of the podcasting boom is to advertise on a show. If there is a show you like or you know your clients listen to approach the show’s host and make an offer.

The growing podcast sensation is just one of the many new trends you can and should take advantage of in your marketing this year. Check out the other four in our free 2017 Marketing Planning Guide here now.

Finding Your Powerful Voice

Your Powerful Voice

What does it mean to ‘use your powerful voice’?

My first thought is which voice? My writing voice or my speaking voice? What does it means to have a voice as a writer? Who am I and what do I have to say? How is what I have to say any different than what anyone else has to say? Is how I speak different than how I write? Should it be?

In writing I believe there is a maturation in developing your voice and discovering who you are and what you stand for. How you view the world is different than how anyone else views it and learning to express yourself through writing can take time and experience.

Your voice is as unique as you are and stepping into your powerful voice is more a process of uncovering it rather than creating it.

Your voice is as much a part of you as your legs or your hair. It is a part of your soul yearning to break free and breathe. To be witnessed and heard. To expand into its maturity and express itself. When you find your writing voice the reader often feels your authority, power, honesty, authenticity. A connection is made.

And then we have our physical voice. As young children we first learn to speak and use our vocal cords and quickly learn the power we yield over the adults in our lives. We use our voice to get attention by crying, screaming, even whispering. We learn ‘inside voice vs outside voice’. We may learn to not use our voice to stay out of trouble. Some of us were taught to be seen and not heard. All of these things effect how we use our voice today – which is mostly unconscious until we start examining how effective our communication is.

An important thing to note…while speech is how you use words, voice is how you create sound. The use of your physical voice is completely different than your writing voice, yet can be just as powerful a way to make a connection.

I spoke with voice coach and co-founder of articulaterc, Hilary Blair, on the power of our voices and she tells us that we can use our voice as a wall to hide behind and not be seen – which leads us to not feeling heard. The frustration is that we may not know why we aren’t being heard. You can listen to the interview on the Fresh Tracks with Kelly Robbins show here.

As business owners, as Fresh Trackers, as adults in today’s world, using your voice is a powerful tool. We use our voice to close sales. To share ideas. To influence others and to change lives. We use our voice to stay in connection with others.

If you want to be heard and make a positive difference in your life and the lives of others you can’t just raise your voice. You have to share what you have to say in a powerful and impactful way. Discovering your powerful voice plays an important role on the journey creating Fresh Tracks.

How Honest Are You in Business?

As seekers of truth and someone striving to live a conscious life I imagine that more often than not you consider your words before speaking them. You pride yourself on not lying. I will also bet that you think before you take actions and strive to always do what’s right.

This is an honorable, compassionate and accepting way to live and be with others and it builds a strong foundation for cutting Fresh Tracks. What you put out you get back.

How does being honest effect your business?

But how does that apply to your business? How does being honest and acting in integrity affect your business results, including the amount of money you make, the clients you attract, and the overall success of your business?

I believe there are good people, people like you, striving to do what’s right, and there are situations where you are not being in integrity with truth and you don’t realize it.

So I am taking it upon myself to bring it to your attention today.

It’s in the seemingly small details that don’t require too much thought and frankly appear harmless that get you out of integrity and in fact end up with you attracting what you don’t want.

Because the actions are small and seemingly harmless we don’t realize the effect they have on our outcomes.

Let’s start with the internet. You may follow and receive information and free training from e-zines like this from me and other experts you enjoy.

Take a look at the actions you take and how you honor the sacredness of the information you receive and share.

For example, if someone (like me for example) is offering a free training such as a report, webinar, or teleclass I may not charge money for it, but I ask for your contact information in order to receive the information. That is ‘the price’ to receive the information.

Don’t make up a fake name, put zeros in the phone number field, or in any way fake out the system to get the information you want without providing the asked for information.

It’s unethical and dishonest to do so.

Here is the truth about business

It is dishonest to put Darth Vader in the name field and receive my manifesto that I spent two weeks writing. It is dishonest to put ‘I don’t give out my phone number’ in the phone number field and still have access to my live training and coaching that I spent time researching and practicing for days before delivering the material. It is deceitful to make up an address just so the fields are completed so you can look at the copy I wrote and write something similar for yourself.

Many of us justify our actions as harmless, even innocent, because there is no money involved. You may tell yourself you’re not hurting anyone – ‘it’s just a free training’ you say to justify your actions. However, not providing the information requested is in fact stealing.

4agreementsThe price I am charging for my 47 years of training, for the hundreds of thousands of dollars I have spent on my education and my business and personal development, for the time I spent away from my children and my family to be where I am today, the price I am charging for all of this is your name and phone number.

If you don’t provide what I am asking you to ‘pay’ you are stealing. And you definitely are not being impeccable with your word.

There is a book called ‘The Four Agreements’ by Don Miguel Ruiz. If you haven’t read it yet, I recommend you do now. The first of the Four Agreements is to ‘Be impeccable with your word’.

Being impeccable with your word is quite an undertaking! And for the most part I believe we all strive to be in integrity with ourselves and others and there are simply some things we do that we never thought of as dishonest.

It’s the little things that get us.

And yes, by giving me your phone number there is a chance I will call you and make sure you received the recording and see if you have any questions I can answer. It’s called doing business.

There is a price for the exchange of energy. As your business grows and prospers you will also not give information away for free (even for this e-zine you paid with your email address and first name) and it is a healthy and sacred way to help others and benefit yourself at the same time.

I share this rant with you because I have started unsubscribing all the Charlie Browns that subscribe to my e-zine. And the folks that register for advanced training and give fake phone numbers and addresses – I am not sending you the training.

The truth is I work incredibly hard to raise my vibration and be a source of strength and wisdom for myself, my family and you – my tribe. I fiercely protect who I surround myself with in my day to day life, both physically and socially, and I am now doing the same for my list. My tribe. I am protecting all of us and the energy of our tribe.

Think about this as you do business with others throughout your week and how you expect to be treated as you grow your business and create your own Fresh Tracks. Are you impeccable with your word? Who are you allowing in your space and how you are allowing them to treat you?

Why Your Hidden Beliefs, Values and Attitudes are Keeping You Numb

Everything you are experiencing in life can be attributed to how you think. How you think is based on your attitudes, values and ultimately your beliefs.

Notice I am saying ‘how’ you think and not ‘what’ you think – there is a difference. Most of us aren’t conscious of our true beliefs and go through life striving for something and yet receive something completely different – and we are completely bewildered why.

Current Beliefs

We accepted many of our current beliefs and values as true when we were young and they haven’t changed. At the time they seemed like appropriate responses, however, they are often no longer appropriate.

These beliefs remain active in your life even though you are not aware of them and unconsciously the actions and decisions you make are based on beliefs that no longer hold true for you.

What we do focus on and talk about frequently in our society is attitude. We hear a lot about attitudes. Having a positive attitude. Changing our attitude. Improving our attitude. Not having a bad attitude.

corebeliefs_headerThe thing is our attitudes stem from our values and beliefs. If we aren’t aware of what we value in life or what our beliefs are we are functioning from an unconscious place. In fact, we are often acting in a way that is the exact opposite of what we say we want!

If you aren’t aware of your beliefs, especially ones formed as a child, life gets frustrating quickly! This presents as you trying and trying to accomplish a goal or create a certain lifestyle or make more money in your business and you just cannot get there no matter what you do.

What happens is you end up staying stuck and ultimately living a numb life. Spinning your wheels, regurgitating the same thoughts and unable to permanently change unsupportive attitudes that are sabotaging your growth.

It’s important that you become aware of the beliefs and values your attitude and behaviors are based off of.

How do you do this?

An exercise you can do at home is to start becoming aware of your personal beliefs in different areas of your life. You can start with answering these questions; Life is… Wealth is…. Happiness is…Play is…. Work is….  Answer each with as many responses as you can. Shoot for ten each.

Then look at where the personal belief came from. There are three possible choices:

  1. You accepted, without conscious choice, the values held by others which may include family, peers, parents, religious training, socioeconomic custom, etc.
  2. Conscious choice by you after you considered it.
  3. Absorbed by your consciousness from the collective unconsciousness of society as a whole.

Using critical thinking skills and picking apart, one by one, our true beliefs and values are we un-numb ourselves and create Fresh Tracks in our life and business!

The situation in the world is somber and I am here to address it head-on. And I am humbly asking you to do the same.

Beware the Research Trap

Changing careers. Increasing income. Improving relationships. Living on purpose.

Taking any of these major course changes on starts with doing something different. We’ve all heard the saying ‘look before you leap’ and as adults that often means go do research before you do anything!

I am a big researcher and often joke that Google is my best friend. I can easily get stuck in analyzer mode, comparing my options and embracing my need to learn everything I can about a topic before I write a single word or take even the smallest action.

And that is just for small stuff!

trapped doing researchIn my business I speak with many people who are stuck in different places, research mode comes up particularly often in sales conversations. The person I am speaking with is often comparing and contrasting different courses of action, different ways to make money, if coaching itself is the right thing.

Yet many of these people never buy from me or anyone else. Because they never buy they also never create lasting change in their lives or career.

There are always more options, more opportunities to explore. And stepping into major life change is never a sure thing, so it’s important to not jump in blindly. I get that.

I make follow-up calls often times years later (the fortune is in the follow-up) and many folks are still thinking about making a change. They are going to try one more free training or take on one more miserable client project and then make the decision….always hoping for different results.

What I hear is they are stuck thinking and researching and not getting anywhere with their life.

I was telling a respected friend about a new client of mine. He asked me how long I spoke with her before she agreed to work with me (which was less than 30 minutes) and then asked me how often my successful clients made quick decisions like that. The truth is most of my successful clients make decisions quickly.

Most successful business leaders I know make a decision quickly, decisively, and then stick with it to make it the right decision. They are clear on what they want and open to see and receive the opportunity when it presents itself.

Why do we get stuck researching?

Because we don’t trust ourselves to take the next step.

We want to make ‘the best’ decision and we let fear, perfectionism, and insecurity stop us in our tracks. The research trap is sneaky because we feel like we are being smart and we are working towards our goals, but in reality we are spinning our wheels in one spot.

How do you break through the research trap?

One effective solution is setting timers for yourself. This can vary depending on what you are researching. You can set 15 minutes for researching an article topic to a few days or weeks if making a big decision. Set your deadline, do your research, and if you still aren’t sure what next step to take let it go for now. It’s amazing how letting go can bring the answer quickly and often organically.

It’s then your job to be open to seeing/receiving it, and stepping into it.

Amazingly, sometimes that’s when I’ve been known to make a follow-up call.

Take the Sales Skills Self-Assessment and Discover Where you Stand on the Sales Skills Spectrum

Don’t Let Poor Sales Skills Kill Your Thunder

There is one thing that will make or break your success in business and it’s your ability to sell. There is absolutely no way to get around it I don’t care what industry you are in or if you are a service provider or widget maker. Mastering sales is mandatory.

It’s interesting becaussales traininge when I write articles like this they are read less than average. Would you rather meditate than sell? It’s not going to bring in the money folks.

One of the first things I assess with my new coaching clients is where they stand on the sales skills spectrum.

Take this self-assessment and see if your poor sales skills are killing your thunder:

  1. Do you love sales or do you avoid it?
  2. Do you need to find more of the right people to talk to or are you not connecting with the ones they’ve got?
  3. Do you think you are good at sales (but your revenue numbers say otherwise)?
  4. When I say the big word….” sales” …. does your voice get small and you tell me you plan to hire people to do that for you because you don’t want to do it?
  5. Do you hear sales and say ‘bring it on baby’.

There are two teachings here.

The first is for you to own that this is your company, no matter the size, and no one will ever be as passionate about your business and sell as well as you. Ever. This is your baby and no one will love it as much as you. So, you MUST embrace selling. When I worked in corporate America, the CEO of the fortune 50 company I worked for made sales visits. If he did it so should you! After you master sales you can train and hire people to do it for you, they will still never be as good as you.

The second point is that you can truly “sell without selling” and there is an authentic, personal, way to connect that comes from a place of serving others. Embracing sales is how you will share your unique gifts with the world.

Sales is about asking questions and learning the needs of the person you are talking to, not asking for money or pushing yourself on someone. Talking and telling all about yourself is not the name of the authentic game. In episode 44  of the Fresh Tracks with Kelly Robbins podcast, Fresh Tracker Judy Hoberman shares, sales is about building relationships, helping people solve their problems, and my favorite, being interested not interesting.

Your sales skills play an incredibly important role in your ability to make money and succeed in business. Don’t hide your head in the sand, think you are better than you really are, or try to get away with not doing it at all and continue to struggle in building your business.

I talk about sales with strength, yet with kid gloves. When done correctly with integrity and authenticity, sales is an amazing way to help people. There are so many formula’s and slick willy teachings about selling that don’t work because people are busy following the formula instead of being present to helping the person in front of them. They ultimately miss the mark.

It’s your time right now. Find a mentor to help you embrace selling and step into the powerful you that’s here to serve others!

5 Signs You Are Not Genuinely Committed

5 Signs You Are Not Genuinely Committed
Even when you think you really are

I know first-hand how frustrating it can be when I feel like I’ve been working incredibly hard on something, especially for a measurable period of time, and I’m not achieving my goal.

Now that I’ve been around the block a few times I know what to look for. More often than not I’ll find it’s because I haven’t committed to it, truly. We think we are committed because we say our goal and may take a few actions here and there, but we really aren’t and it can be easy to fool ourselves if we’re not on alert for it. Lack of commitment is a sneaky slope if you’re not watching…..

Here are five signs that you are not genuinely committed to achieving your goals:

  1. It doesn’t show up in your calendar. What’s important to you and the life you want to build has to show up in your calendar. And yes, you must make a commitment to follow your calendar too. In this week’s Fresh Tracks show our best-selling authors Ron and Scott share in-depth information on why this seemingly simple act is the foundation to creating a life of growth and balance. You want to be in better shape? Write a book? Make more money? Tasks leading directly to those goals should be in your calendar and followed without question.
  2. distraction from goalsYou let distractions sidetrack you. One of the biggest gifts I share with my coaching clients is helping them stay focused on their goals. There are often so many options and directions to go when creating and growing, and one easy and common way to avoid fear is to go ‘sideways’ rather than forward. The action itself may be new to you, but it’s not moving you towards your goal.
  3. You cannot take an inventory of what you’ve put into your commitment. You haven’t invested in it. You want to be a writer and haven’t written a word in over 20 years? Interested in starting a business? Have you attended any training’s? Workshops? Invested in a website or any materials you need? Have you managed to find money for cars and vacations? Even measuring your time can be an inventory of your commitment.
  4. Have a contingency plan. If you have a back door plan you are not committed. Here is an example of having a contingency plan that I often see often with my clients. They have the intention to start a business, yet they are looking for a job at the same time. They spend their spare time scrolling though job boards and the classifieds “just in case” something good pops up.

When you do this you do not realize you have unconsciously not fully committed to your business 100 percent. AND, because what you focus on expands, you are focusing on two outcomes; starting a business or getting a new job. When you do this you are planting conflicting seeds and end up sabotaging yourself and struggling with both outcomes.
  5. Not sacrificing for it. It is true for anything you want to bring new into your life, you have to let something go, usually of lower value, to to make room for it. For example, you may need to sacrifice donuts for breakfast and chocolate cake for lunch if you have a goal to lose weight. You want to write a book or start a business, you may have to sacrifice time in front of the television or reading novels. You have to create space for the new.

Commitment is not about dabbling in your dreams or playing a game just because you can. The time to commit is when you are unequivocally ready to bring your dreams to reality and your behaviors should reflect your new outcomes. Don’t be fooled by thinking you are committing when you really aren’t.

Have you been talking about accomplishing a goal for a long time yet not getting there? Are you ready to discover more about creating your life with intention and purpose? I encourage you to step into the Your Dream Life free training and learn the 7 steps to creating Your Dream Life now!

Expect to Fail on Your Road to Success

Expect to Fail on Your Road to Success
And Quit Beating Yourself Up About It!

There’s a saying in skiing that if you don’t fall you’re not pushing yourself, which my dad annoyingly repeated to me over and over again as a kid on the ski slopes of Colorado. And not only did he expect me to fall, he made me get up by myself! He would walk up the mountain on his skis, stand right next to me and tell me what to do; how to untangle my legs, put my ski back on while standing sideways on the mountain, un-fog my wet goggles so I could see. I was miserable.

As a mother myself I can now see how patient he actually was, waiting for my wailing tears to stop and discouraging me from sliding down the mountain on my butt instead of skiing after the crash. He wanted me to be confident in myself so that I knew I was strong enough to get out of any situation.

Failing is a stepping stone to success
Through my tears and grumbling with each fall, my dad taught me an important lesson – falling is OK. It is, in fact, expected if you want to get better. What is also expected is that I pick myself back up, don’t rely on anyone else to bail me out, and get on my way down the mountain and not catch a ride with a snowmobile (which I only did once when I tried snowboarding).

If you’re not falling you’re not pushing yourself is an important lesson for all entrepreneurs and for anyone that is cutting Fresh Tracks. You will fall. You will fail. It is expected and in fact good because if you aren’t falling you aren’t growing. You aren’t pushing yourself and your goals are probably not stretching you enough. The last lesson, it’s up to you to pick yourself back up.

Because no one else gives a shit.

worryFailure is a part of your growth and is a necessary and unavoidable part of the Fresh Tracks process. As humans it’s natural to want to avoid the pain and fear involved in falling. We hide our failures from others in shame and it’s not usually talked about so we don’t see how others are falling along their way too. We see the success of others, but not the long, painful journey they endured to get there. We try at all costs to master things without experiencing the emotional roller coaster that goes along with true growth.

We can intellectualize failing and get that it’s going to happen, but when it actually happens it’s a lot harder than we can ever expect it to be and many good people end up quitting. When you are skiing and you fall you get wet. Snow gets in your gloves and down your back. It’s gets in your goggles and fogs them up. It takes time, patience, and occasionally a spare pair of gloves to swap out to continue on through the day.

How can you best endure the dips and falls of creating your Fresh Tracks? Start by developing a sense of trust in yourself – you know your next step. When you do this your intuition gets stronger and you are more able to bounce back quickly from the setbacks you are destined to experience. Worrying about failing is only going to make you feels worse, so don’t focus on it.

Trust yourself not that you won’t fail, but that you’ll keep trying. There is an old saying that ‘businesses don’t go under, the owners quit’. I share that saying with you and ask you to apply that to your goals. Trusting yourself that you won’t quit is key factor in success and is what differentiates those that do accomplish what they want in life from those that don’t.

I have an in-depth training specifically on Worrying and How that is Really you Manifesting Disaster on the podcast Fresh Tracks with Kelly Robbins.

If this resonates with you and you want to discover more about creating your life with intention and purpose, I encourage you to step into the Your Dream Life free training and learn the 7 steps to creating Your Dream Life now!
